Joyabaj - Male
 Daily

White trousers seem to stand out from the rest of this elaborate outfit.  The sky blue shirt is embroidered along the front and the sleeves. His red wool checkered jacket gives an appearance of sophistication.  A skillfully woven beige sash hangs down in front, while the typical red Tzut is tied on the head.

Language: Quiché             Department: El Quiché

At one time the villagers would spend two months a year picking coffee beans on the coastal plantations.  Joyabaj is known for being isolated and keeping strong their traditions of old.  Still today they performs their pre-Conquest dances. The most renown are the agile Snake Dance with a live snake and the Deer Dance. The Deer Dance portrays the struggle between animals and mankind.
