The ladies weave a silk ribbon into their hair allowing pompons, loops and fringes to dangle below the shoulders. Representing the royal Quetzal bird, which formerly only kings were allow such honor, suggests this village's royalty.  Their skirts are a tie-dye weaving, considered some of the finest anywhere.

Totonicapán is the chief village for a larger area.  Sitting at the foot of high broken mountains covered with pines, spruce and oaks has made it a center for carpentry. The village is also know for its weaving.
