Chichicastenango - Ceremonial
 Female

The blouse is an important part of her religious responsibilities.  If laid flat the long white house reveals: 1) the Mayan cross woven in geometric shapes, 2) the sun woven around the collar, 3) the four stages of the moon woven around the neck, and 4) the double headed bird.

Language: Quiché             Department: El Quiché

In Chichicastenango the Mayan mix their religion with the catholic church. On the steps of the church they burn "copal" to their gods, before burning candles to the saints inside. As they say, "Burn one for the God in the house, and another for the ones outside."   Chichicastenango means, "The place of the Thistles."
