Her blouse is a deep purple with flowers embroidered over her shoulders and across her back.  A white shawl with similar weavings rests on her head.

At one time the villagers would spend two months a year picking coffee beans on the coastal plantations.  Joyabaj is known for being isolated and keeping strong their traditions of old.  Still today they performs their pre-Conquest dances. The most renown are the agile Snake Dance with a live snake and the Deer Dance. The Deer Dance portrays the struggle between animals and mankind.
