This site was created with information from
Maya of Guatemala
by Carmen L Pettersen.

The Mayan Indians are still alive today!

They have survivied Spanish conquest, civil war and westernization.  In Guatemala there are 23 different Mayan Language groups. Each language group has their own language and traditional customs.

Within the language group, the various villages have their own personal identity. Through the centuries the villages have developed particular coloring and weave patterns that distinguish them from other villages.  The Spanish used this to their advantage in order to know who belonged to what village.

Here at Guate Dolls we have taken meticulous care to reproduce each indigenous outfit exactly as it appears in real life.

Come experience the vivid imagination of
the Mayan Culture.
